About

Tigerland (styled TIGERLAND) is the psychedelic dance-punk project of Wally Tigerland, an artist and mult-instrumentalist from Queens, New York. His music centers around the mantra, “be kind to each other,” which asks audiences to embrace leftist points of view motivated by love and kindness.

Ideology

Through music, Tigerland asks his listeners to find strength in community and face uncomfortable truths together. He encourages us to embrace our collective humanity, cultivate revolutionary optimism, and organize efforts to end man-made suffering around the world.

His music highlights the political corruption inherent in economies based on “profit-first” and “short term gains.” He criticizes the influence of the excessively wealthy, who collude against the working class through lobbying and propaganda. Tigerland asks his listeners to question the groups and labels they find themselves pushed into, especially if they cause disunity and coerces one into targeting their fellow working-class human beings.

Wally Tigerland

Tigerland is the project of Wally Tigerland, an artist, musician, and creative technologist from Queens, New York. He uses connective technology to increase access to education and opportunities, believing that education is the single most important factor to creating a better world. He believes that if everyone learns about history, technology, languages, critical thinking, economics, politics, and contemporary social issues, we would be equipped to address most of the issues that cause suffering.

Wally Tigerland is the Co-Founder and Creative Director of The New Absurdist, an online magazine meant to highlight marginalized perspectives and shed light on the factors that contribute to social injustices. The hope is that by harnessing empathy, we can move people to acknowledge inequities and find the best ways to move forward.

Wally Tigerland is also the creator of Theory Tools, a free web app designed to help musicians practice and master essential music theory concepts like scales, chords, and musical notation.

Antcap.io is a social web-based gaming project currently under the works. The games are free to play, and are meant to provide people with a fun way to learn about our social/political systems.

Sound And Influences

The Tigerland style can be defined by his use of dirty, crunchy synths. Fuzzy guitar, punchy bit-crushed drums and gritty, saturated vocals. Some may find his work similar to artists like LCD Soundsystem, Gorillaz, KAYTRANADA, Tyler, The Creator, and Tame Impala.

Inspired by the way religion moves people to believe in kindness and find belonging with each other, many of his songs are also mellow and spiritually evocative. Much of his sound and visuals draws from religious patterns found across faiths and cultures.
